For some, fine art is a thing to be studied, articulated, pontificated, dissected and classified.  For myself, fine art should be heard, felt, witnessed and connected through.  A visceral explosion of color, texture, and form that spills out the emotional connection between us and it, me and the above, we and trees.  When patrons look at my work and want to talk about the feelings, memories and emotion the work evokes, I engage heartily.  When patrons look at my work and want to discuss the details, ask about training, want to know why this or that, I still engage because I naturally love to talk about details; but, I try to get them away from the thinking about art--and see if I can get them to feel the art.

 

I am an accountant by training.  I know detail.  I know craft.  What I didn't know was art.  My art.  My soul's expression.  My translation of the feeling of God's gift of creation.  I could love trees, rocks, fields, water, and the land.  But if I could put that love onto a canvas, fill the paint with the passion of life, and get others to feel connection to something beyond us by just standing in front of my finished work, that would be art.
