| Autumn on Long Pond |

|
| Oil, palette knife, 18 x 24 |
My wife's family has a cabin on Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes, Maine. Wonderfully rustic with no electricity,
it is one of my favorite places to be. One blustery weekend in October 2001, we went up to close up the camp for the
winter. I took along my acrylics, my french easel and a couple of canvases. I brought everything down to
the dock, and quickly sketched the scene to the right of the dock. This painting is the oil version that I did back
in my studio at home from the acrylic sketch. If you have never been to Maine in October, you must make it there someday.
In the meantime, this painting may explore for you the contrasting chill of the air and water with the full on blazing heat
of the colors of the sugar maples, oaks and birches.
