Birch trees are a great part of the New England landscape.  One day I was driving through the White Mountains of my home state of New Hampshire and I stopped at a quiet little pond.  It was dusk, the ground was covered in snow and the pond was partially frozen.  Numerous stands of white birches led into the pond.  It was a spectacular setting.  I knew the lighting may be too low to capture the scene but I thought it was worth the effort.   Two dozen shutter clicks and two hours ride latter I arrived home and downloaded the images into my computer.  Disappointing--very, very blue.  But then it occured to me--paint the blue.  Paint it anyway.  That was the image, so paint it.  I loved the first painting so much I ended up doing a series of three.  This is the first--the other two have sold (you can see images of the other two in Available Pieces--For Gallery Review).
