My wife's family has a cabin on Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes, Maine. Wonderfully
rustic with no electricity, it is one of my favorite places to be. Just off shore is a tiny island. One day,
late in the fall, I took the camera in the kayak and captured a shot of the island. One of the things I love about this
painting is the contrasting chill of the water with the warmth of the sky and tree. The truth is while the water was
very cold that day, so was the air---the wind had picked up, and the sky was not as warm as my painting shows.
But the warmth in the painting is my emotion for the region, the island, and that wonderful crooked top pine tree.
